Verses 1–7: Oaths by the Winds
Allah swears by various forms of winds and angels — some violent, some gentle, some bringing messages.
Interpretation:
These verses set a dramatic tone. The winds are symbolic of Allah’s power and how His commands swiftly reach creation — whether for mercy, warning, or destruction.
Verses 8–15: Judgment Is Coming
- The Day of Judgment will be a reality — the stars will be dimmed, the sky split, mountains scattered, and messengers summoned.
- Repeated refrain: “Woe on that Day to those who deny!”

“When the messengers are brought forward…”

Verses 16–28: Reminders from History

Verses 29–40: Consequences for the Guilty

- Hellfire, described in vivid imagery.
- No shade, no relief, only scalding heat and despair.
- They will wish they had obeyed.

“It will throw out sparks as huge as castles…”
This paints a terrifying picture of Hell to shake the heedless into awareness.
Verses 41–47: Rewards for the Righteous
- The God-conscious will be in cool, shaded gardens with abundant springs.
- They will hear peaceful, uplifting words.
- A reward for living responsibly and choosing truth.

“Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do.”
Verses 48–50: Final Warning
- Those who deny ask mockingly, “When will this Day come?”
- When it arrives, they will be told:
“Now believe, if you can.”
But it will be too late.
