Verse 21:1–2
“The time of people’s reckoning has drawn near, yet they turn away in heedlessness. No reminder comes to them anew from their Lord but they listen to it while they play.”

These opening verses strike a tone of urgency. While divine revelation continues to reach humanity, most remain distracted by entertainment and worldly affairs, ignoring the approaching reality of accountability.

2. Warning to the Arrogant and Mockers of Truth
Verse 21:36 –
“And when those who disbelieve see you, [O Muhammad], they take you not except in ridicule, [saying], ‘Is this the one who insults your gods?’”
Verse 21:41 –
“Messengers before you were also mocked, but those who ridiculed them were overtaken by what they used to ridicule.”
Tafsir Insight:
Throughout history, prophets have faced mockery and rejection. But the truth outlasts arrogance, and those who laughed were eventually silenced by divine justice.
Lesson for Today:
For youth dealing with mockery for their faith, this verse offers comfort. Truth will always face resistance, but in the end, it stands tall. For leaders and educators: teach the strength of resilience, not popularity.
3. Stories of Prophets – A Chain of Steadfast Souls

Ibrahim (Abraham)
Verses: 21:51–70
Ibrahim (A.S.) is introduced as a young man endowed with wisdom who fearlessly challenged his people’s idol worship. He cleverly broke the idols, leaving only the biggest one, to provoke reflection. Instead of accepting the truth, the people tried to burn him. But Allah miraculously saved him: “O fire, be cool and safe for Ibrahim” (21:69).
Message: Stand firm for truth, even when you’re alone against society.
Lut (Lot)
Verses: 21:71–75
Lut (A.S.), the nephew of Ibrahim, is praised for his faith and righteousness. Allah rescued him from a corrupt society that indulged in severe immorality. His people were destroyed due to their rejection of his message.
Message: Uphold morality and truth, even in the midst of widespread corruption.
Nuh (Noah)
Verses: 21:76–77
Nuh (A.S.) preached monotheism tirelessly for centuries. When he prayed for deliverance from his people’s rejection and mockery, Allah accepted his plea and saved him and his followers from the flood.
Message: Patience in da‘wah (calling to Allah) and trust in divine justice bring reward.
Dawud (David) & Sulayman (Solomon)
Verses: 21:78–82
Both are shown as wise and just prophets and rulers. A legal case between two men involving damaged crops highlights their sharp judgment. Sulayman is also granted control over winds, jinn, and metalwork.
Message: Justice, wisdom, and gratitude for divine gifts are central to righteous leadership.
Ayyub (Job)
Verses: 21:83–84
Ayyub (A.S.) suffered severe physical and emotional trials, but never lost faith. His humble prayer for mercy resulted in divine healing and restoration.
Message: Sabr (patience) during trials is a path to Allah’s mercy and elevation.
Yunus (Jonah)
Verses: 21:87–88
Yunus (A.S.) left his people prematurely and was swallowed by a great fish. In its depths, he prayed: “There is no god but You; indeed, I was among the wrongdoers.” His sincere repentance led to his rescue.
Message: Even prophets err, but sincere repentance brings Allah’s mercy.
Zakariya, Yahya, and Maryam Verses: 21:89–91
Zakariya (A.S.) prayed for a righteous child and was gifted Yahya (John), a prophet known for purity and wisdom. Maryam (A.S.) is honored for her chastity and miraculous motherhood. Allah declares them as among the righteous.
Message: Righteous families rooted in prayer and purity leave lasting spiritual legacies
Summary Insight:
These prophets are diverse in roles, but united in devotion, prayer, and humility. They are proof that Allah responds to those who call upon Him sincerely.
4. Consolation and Reminder for the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
Verse 21:107 –
“And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], but as a mercy to the worlds.”
Verse 21:108 –
“Say, ‘It is only revealed to me that your God is One God; so will you be Muslims [in submission]?’”
Tafsir Insight:
After mentioning the trials of many prophets, Allah honors Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as Rahmatan lil-‘Ālamīn—a mercy to all worlds. His mission is universal, his message eternal.
