Translation (Sahih International)
- Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of the daybreak
- From the evil of what He has created
- And from the evil of darkness when it settles
- And from the evil of those who blow on knots
- And from the evil of the envier when he envies.”
Tafsir (Explanation)
Verse 1 – “I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak”
- This begins with a du’a for protection, turning to Allah, the Creator of light and hope after darkness.
- Symbolically, “daybreak” represents relief, clarity, and divine intervention after periods of difficulty.
Verse 2 – “From the evil of what He has created”
- A general prayer to be protected from any harmful part of creation, including people, animals, natural forces, or unseen beings.
Verse 3 – “From the evil of darkness when it settles”
- Refers to fear, danger, or unseen threats that often emerge in the night—physically and metaphorically.
- A call to seek protection from spiritual, mental, and emotional darkness.
Verse 4 – “From the evil of those who blow on knots”
- Alludes to sorcery, manipulation, or psychological harm—from people who use dark methods or hidden plots to harm others.
Verse 5 – “From the evil of the envier when he envies”
- Acknowledges the very real impact of jealousy, resentment, and destructive comparison.
- Not all harm is physical—this protects against toxic intentions and spiritual negativity.
