Surah Al-Balad (Chapter 90) – Tafsir, Theme & Relevance
Summary Translation (Sahih International)
- I swear by this city [Makkah]
- And you, [O Muhammad], are a resident of this city
- And [by] the father and that which was born [of him]
- We have certainly created man in hardship
- Does he think that no one has power over him?
- He says, “I have wasted enormous wealth”
- Does he think that no one sees him?
- Have We not made for him two eyes
- And a tongue and two lips
- And shown him the two ways?
- But he has not attempted the uphill path
- And what can make you know what the uphill path is?
- It is to free a slave
- Or to feed on a day of severe hunger
- An orphan of near relationship
- Or a needy person in distress
- Then to be of those who believe and advise each other to patience and compassion
- They are the companions of the right
- But those who disbelieve in Our signs – they are the companions of the left
- Over them will be fire closed in
