Surah An-Naas (Surah 114)
Surah An-Naas (Chapter 114) – Meaning, Tafsir & Present-Day Relevance
Translation (Sahih International)
- Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind,
- The Sovereign of mankind,
- The God of mankind,
- From the evil of the whisperer who withdraws,
- Who whispers in the hearts of mankind,
- Among jinn and among mankind.”
Tafsir (Explanation)
Verse 1 – “I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind”
- Allah is introduced as the Nurturer and Sustainer of humanity. This emphasizes His personal care, mercy, and authority over every soul.
Verse 2 – “The Sovereign of mankind”
- Allah is the only true King and Master—no ruler, system, or ideology has real power without His will.
Verse 3 – “The God of mankind”
- Reaffirming that Allah alone deserves worship, loyalty, and love. People often get distracted by false “gods” such as ego, fame, or power.
Verse 4 – “From the evil of the whisperer who withdraws”
- Refers to Shaytan (Satan) and others who try to mislead people through quiet, hidden suggestions—especially towards doubt, fear, sin, or selfishness.
Verse 5 – “Who whispers in the hearts of mankind”
- Highlights that the real battlefield is the heart and mind. The whisperer plays on insecurities, negative thoughts, pride, and anxiety.
Verse 6 – “Among jinn and among mankind”
- These whisperers aren’t just unseen devils—humans can also play this role, spreading corruption, confusion, or harmful ideas.
